Where is the largest cafe in the world? Until March 31, 2023, Al Masaa cafe in Saudi Arabia held the record as the largest cafe with a capacity of 1050 seats. On April 1st, Positive Spsce 566 in Korea became the world's number-one cafe. Here is a review of the visit. 

1. Meaning of Positive Space 566

Positive Space means "a positive space" when translated into Korea interestingly, 566 comes from the cafe's address, 566 Gamjeong-doing, Gimpo City. The owner named the cafe to create a space where people can feel better by enjoying good things, seeing good things, and hearing good things.

2. Getting to Positive Space 566

Positive Space 566 is next to the road from Gimpo City Station to Incheon's Geomdan. If you travel from Seoul, you can take public transportation or drive by car. By public transport, it takes about 1 hour from Yeouido or Gangnam, You can take the 9501 bus from Gangnam Station Exit 4 on the Sinbundang Line or the G6005 bus from Yeoid Transfer Center Platform 3 and get off at Homeplus Mart Bus Stop. Even young couples without a vehicle can easily find their way there as it is accessible without any transfers.

Usually, people go to restaurants to enjoy a good coffee or dessert and to feel comfortable while appreciating the beautiful nature and landscapes nearby, this place felt different from the countryside cafes imagine, as it is located in the center of the Homplus Supermarket and apartment complex, the entrance is decorated with gardens and sculptures moderately, feeling like a modern paradise. Additionally, a statue in front of the cafe entrance and on the floor resembles an organized crime figure, creating a somewhat mismatched feeling with the cafe's atmosphere.

Kim's work is also installed in a park called "Chuncheon Propose" in Chuncheon City, and residents have complained that the sculptures reminiscent of organized crime figures create discomfort and visual dissonance. Once you step inside, you can feel that Positive Space 566 truly lives up to its reputation as a hotspot, as it is crowded with customers. There were not only couples and somewhat cramped, so you can imagine how many customers visit here. When it was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in April this year, it had 2,190 seats, but now they have increased it to around 2,300. I asked the owner about the cost of establishing the cafe, and he mentioned that the land acquisition cost was about 75 million dollars. It seems unlikely they invested much money just to receive an annual income of about 27 million dollars, making it a total of approximately one hundred and two hundred dollars. The spacing between tables was wide, creating a private atmosphere. There were well-decorated photo zones and rooms for groups of six or more, designed with a different concept. It felt like a suitable place for group gatherings. 

3. Evaluation of Beverage and Bakery Taste and Price

The beverages ranged from $6 ~ $8, which felt more than 30% more expensive than those in regular cafes. The bakery items varied in price, with a basic range of $2 ~ $8. Italian cuisines, such as steak in the $32 field and pasta, pizza, and salads, had prices similar to those in regular restaurants. I felt that the beverages were somewhat expensive, but considering the scale and atmosphere of the cafe. I thought the prices were reasonable. In terms of taste, I tried the beverages, bread, and pizza. They were similar to what you would find in d decent restaurant or cafe, and I enjoyed them very much. According to my foodie friend who accompanied me, the beverages and food were not of the highest level overall but rather average. However, taste evaluation can vary depending on personal preferences.

4. Overall Review

There was no need to worry about the atmosphere being quiet or lacking coziness, as it is the world's largest cafe and had over 2,300 fully occupied seats. When I visited on the weekend. It was hectic, and there was no room to move. The interior and exterior of the building reflected the owner's passion and dedication.
